Dear (ACCESS DENIED)

Thank you for your letter regarding the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010. The original sponsor of this bill, Senator John McCain, recently withdrew his name from the legislation. I do appreciate your thoughts
and feel it is important to share my views.

I wholeheartedly oppose the Dietary Supplement Safety Act (DSSA). At the heart of this matter is the issue of how to control and discontinue the distribution of illegal steroid substances. I am confident that
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can solve the current steroid problem without being granted additional
control over the dietary supplement industry.

Currently, FDA regulates dietary supplements under a different set of regulations than those covering “conventional” foods and drug products (prescription and Over-the-Counter).

Drugs and supplements should not be treated the same by the FDA. The Dietary Supplement Safety Act would hinder consumers’ ability to choose healthcare and wellness options outside of the scope of more “traditional”
forms of medicine.
